Attention Current Washeroos™ Owners:

(These instructions only apply to those who purchased the current version of Washeroos™ before June 20, 2007)

In an effort to make the best washer tossing game possible we have put Washeroos™ through several design changes over the years. Recently we noticed that the current version of our game wasn't playing quite the same as some of the older designs. It seemed like there wasn't enough "action" around the hole and too many washers were bouncing off the mat. What we discovered was that the mats on the current version of Washeroos™ were much tighter than the mats on the older versions of the game.

We have recently changed the design of the game to make the mats a little more loose. For those of you who purchased the current version before we made this change, there is a solution. All you have to do to stretch your rubber mat is stand in the center of the mat for about 10 seconds. The mat should not come loose from the game board. I wear size 13 shoes and I have tested this on several Washeroos™ games by standing in the center of them with both feet. There were no problems with the mats coming loose. We have never had to replace a customer's game due to a mat separating from the game board.

Stretching your mats is completely optional. If you are 100% satisfied with the way your game currently plays, then by all means leave it as is. We felt strongly enough about the change to incorporate it into the design of all Washeroos™ games from here forward. It is our belief that it makes Washeroos™ a more fun and exciting experience and more like the original game that we became hooked on years ago.

A Minor Rule Change:

We have changed the official distance between the platforms to 20 feet. We used to suggest placing them 20-25 feet apart with the official distance for tournaments being set at 22 feet. We now suggest that all games be played at a distance of 20 feet and all official Washeroos™ tournament and league matches will be played at this distance from now on.

Washeroos™ Rules and Instructions
(For ages 10 and up with two, three, or four players)

NOTE: Adult supervision may be required.

SETUP: Place bases about 20-25 feet apart. (The official distance for  tournament play is 22 feet.) Seven normal paces from the front of one base to  the front of the other is about right. One set of washers to each person or team.  Each person tosses one washer toward the same unit from anywhere behind  the front of the other unit. The closest one to the hole, on or off the base goes  first.

OBJECT: The object of the game is to score 21 points, winning by 2.

SCORING: Points are scored as follows:

On the base - 1 point

Leaning in the hole ("leaner") - 2 points

In the hole ("ringer") - 3 points

Scoring each round is an "all-or-nothing" situation for each player/team. The  player with the most points in each round adds that amount to their total  score. The other player gets no points added to their total score. Only one  player can score per round! If the score happens to be tied in a round, it is  considered a "push" and neither team receives any points.

PLAYING THE GAME: For 2 players: Both players toss from behind the front  of the same base toward the other base, aiming for the base. One person tosses  all four of their tossing washers, leaving them where they fall. The other person  then tosses all four of their washers. Where the washers finally land after all  players have taken their turn is where they are scored. (It may bounce off the  grass onto the unit, be knocked into the hole by another washer or opponent's  washer, get knocked off the board by a washer, etc.) It is to a player's  advantage to be the first to toss. The person who scores (or previously went  first, as points do not have to be scored every turn) goes first in the next turn.  They have "honors". After each turn, players switch sides to toss at the base  they previously tossed from.

For 4 players: Team members stand opposite to each other and no one  switches sides. Opponents should be paired according to skill. (The two that  are the most skilled should toss against each other, that is, from the same  side.)

It is also possible to play 3 person Washeroos™. An additional set of washers  needs to be obtained. The rules for 2 person Washeroos™ apply.
